Sustainability & Environmental Awareness
In the mountains, we have always known the balance of give-and-take. While the modern world often prioritizes resources over nature, we believe in meaningful change rather than empty promises. Step by step, we have transformed the Almhof into an eco-friendly hotel that honours our environment.

Better Climate
Beyond the visual appeal, our green roofs are functional ecosystems. They provide natural cooling, store rainwater, and offer a sanctuary for alpine insects. We are proud to combine high-end design with environmental action – right here in the heart of the Zillertal.
E-Mobility
With three BMW i3s available for our employees to use free of charge, we are putting sustainable mobility into practice. This initiative is our way of leading by example and driving climate protection forward in the Zillertal.

Electric Car & Bike Charging Points
Our garage has four electric charging stations for cars (€0.50/kWh), while e-bike charging is available free of charge in the bike cellar. This ensures you can head into the Zillertal mountains with a full battery.
Natural Cosmetics
All our rooms feature 100% plant-based cosmetics by STOP THE WATER WHILE USING ME! Good for you, better for the environment. With every use, you are directly supporting global water conservation projects.

Grüne Haube Natural Cooking
Discover our certified “Grüne Haube” natural cuisine – the wholesome heart of our menu. Here, you can experience genuine whole foods crafted from natural, unprocessed ingredients rather than industrial mass-produced alternatives. We truly honour the essence of ‘natural cuisine’ to ensure authentic flavours and total well-being during your stay at the Almhof.
What does this mean for you? Our kitchen celebrates organic whole grains, alongside vegetables and fruit sourced as fresh produce from certified organic farms, with a strict focus on regional and seasonal availability. In fact, we source our ingredients almost exclusively from our direct neighbourhood. This also means returning meat to its rightful, sustainable place for both the environment and the individual: served in moderation and sourced from high-welfare, organic livestock. Furthermore, you will find absolutely no artificial flavours, enhancers, preservatives, colourings, or thickening and gelling agents in our dairy products, soups, and sauces.
Put simply: we prepare and cook everything ourselves. We are committed to the highest quality standards and take great pride in introducing our younger guests to the joys of healthy eating. Our rich variety of organic dishes and drinks is sure to impress, with the Grüne Haube menu predominantly prepared on a plant-based, whole-food basis. Naturally, we also provide dedicated options for guests with allergies or food intolerances. For your peace of mind, our commitment is strictly monitored and verified by AUSTRIA BIO-GARANTIE.

Reduction of Food Waste: Küchenprofi(t) United Against Waste
Food is a precious resource – that’s why minimizing waste is one of our top priorities. To achieve this, our culinary team partnered with the ‘Küchenprofi(t)’ advisory programme by ecotirol, implementing expert strategies for a more sustainable and mindful kitchen.
The programme includes:
- Sorting and collecting all food waste on site
- Inspection on site and analysis of the kitchen processes
- Food waste analysis and identification of potential savings
- Recommendations and measures
ecotirol is an initiative of Land Tirol, Wirtschaftskammer Tirol, Energie Tirol and Klimabündnis Tirol, supported by the Ministerium für Nachhaltigkeit und Tourismus (Department of Sustainability and Tourism).

Heating & Energy
Responsibility for tomorrow: At the Almhof, we are committed to sustainable energy and the mindful use of our natural resources. By doing so, we preserve the beauty of our alpine landscape for generations to come. For us, environmental consciousness isn’t a trend – it’s a promise to our region and future generations.
We have built a small hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 200 kWh for the power supply. The annual yield is around 800,000 kWh. In total, the Almhof consumes around 1,000,000 kWh of electricity per year. In summer 2021, we installed a photovoltaic system with an estimated annual electricity yield of 60,000 kWh.
For hot water preparation and heating we use a CO2-neutral pellet plant with a capacity of 1.200 kWh.
In May 2020, we have built a compound refrigeration system with heat recovery. The waste heat is fed directly into the heating of the indoor and outdoor swimming pool.
